Exclusive Interview with Solomon Trimble, Part 2

EM (Bella): Alright, next question…

EM (Alice): Were you surprised by how popular Twilight became?

Solomon: Oh, I have no idea.

*laughter*

Solomon: It was freaking out! I don't know, it was um. I wasn't like that good with the whole FaceBook application, at first. That crashed on me. Though it might have been because I had such a crappy computer. But it was more or less…I didn't know how the ads worked when I started one. And then I had a lot of people adding me, so it was adding me all the time. I had a whole bunch of ads that kept getting added because I confirmed everything. Then after a while, like, I couldn't even get on my page because it would be so slow, and I'm like 'oh, this is kinda weird.' But…the fans coming up to me asking me for my autograph; that was really weird. It was just like one-one or two like in the first couple of months. But when it got closer to…I'm talking about after the shoot…but when it got closer to the film it became like ten, fifteen. And then when, uh, anytime I went to the mall. Even if I was going to be there for five minutes it would take me probably like forty-five minutes to get out of there. That was new, really new. I had to avoid bookstores. Anywhere where there was girls from age between twelve and thirty. *laugh* That was new. I was like, 'wow.' I guess the surprise was--I'd plan out my day on whether there would be Twilight fans and how much time I would need to take. I don't mind signing autographs and talking and stuff. But it was like, I'm taking college classes on statistics and I also work full time, and I'm working out like crazy, and I'm just really busy. And I just have a hard time telling fans 'I'm busy!' 'Cause I don't like just sitting and talking. I was just like, 'ooh, I'm busy.' I also teach Native American dancing to my niece and my nephew. My niece is in pre-school. So, I just posted some pictures of that on my MySpace. It's an old one of me teaching how to grass dance. I also have a friend named Betty who's helping me…she also teaches there…but yeah.
The initial fandom was yeah, just…. For me it was progressively larger. Like I'm sure for Robert Pattinson it was just crazy. Like immediate--

EM (Alice): Oh, yeah.

Solomon: You know, everybody screaming at him wherever he goes. For me it kind of slowly grew as people found out more about the wolf pack. It was gradual for me. But, I was completely surprised. I mean, when I went in for the audition, with all the people talking like 'oh, indy film' and other people were like 'oh, it's going to be like Lord of the Rings.'

*laughter*

EM (Esme): Lord of the Rings?

Solomon: Some were like 'it's no big deal' and I'm like, 'alright.' I remember having to tell my mom that it's not an indy film 'cause when she asked me like 'well where can I go see it?' And I'm like 'anywhere.'

*laughter*

Solomon: Like, 'just go somewhere and go watch it.' But uh, yeah. I think I answered the question.

EM (Rosalie): So far what has been your favorite fan experience or fan encounter?

Solomon: It was on a city bus in Portland, about two years ago. Before I auditioned and before I was cast. I traded numbers with this girl, and we were supposed to go on a date. But you know, the stupid dating rules like; who was supposed to call who first.

*laughter*

Solomon: And so I never called her, and she never called me. But anyway, about a month…no three weeks ago, or a month? A month and a half? I don't know. She called me. I get this phantom text out of nowhere, and she was like 'I remember you from the bus.'

*laughter*

Solomon: The text is like, somewhere. I have it on my phone. I know if I hang up I could find it. But…something to the effect like: 'I know you were in Twilight. There is no escape.'

*laughter*

Solomon: 'You have to take me on a date, or I'll post your phone number online.' I was like, 'ooh, bribery.'

EM (Bella): Oh wow!

EM (Rosalie): Oh my gosh!

Solomon: So yeah, I took her out and it was great. And we've had coffee a couple other times. So I guess, not like a real encounter with a fan. But I was bribed-or, not bribed, black-mailed.

*laughter*

Solomon: But I got a date out of it, so, yeah, it's totally my favorite.

*laughter*

Solomon: There are other ones where the parents are more excited about getting my autograph than the kids, like they won't really know what's going on, or just be really embarrassed that their parents are, Dad or Mom, is like 'yeah! I get something signed by one of the wolf pack!'

*laughter*

Solomon: I'm glad the fandom is expanding, but it's still kind of…I don't know-awkward and strange.

EM (Bella): Yeah.

Solomon: When I was at the mall, this father and daughter pair had come and they…they waited until I was done eating, they were really nice. But then they came up, and then…the father lays down this double X shirt of Team Edward.

*laughter*

Solomon: And he was like, 'yeah! Now all I need is Taylor!' 'Cause he pulled it up, and it had everybody's signature on it. He was like 'Yeah! All I need is Taylor!' And he skipped away. And me and the daughter looked at each other with the same expression and like, 'uh…'

*laughter*

Solomon: And like, 'I'm sorry.' Well…it was great though. That made me smile all day.

*laughter*

EM (Esme): How far along are you in school, and how much longer do you have?

Solomon: Oh, I wish you'd get off my back. You sound like my mother.

*laughter*

Solomon: Uh…Well, I got my bachelor's degree in spring, which is the same time we were shooting. I'm glad that my teachers believed me when I said 'I'm sorry I missed the mid term, I was in a movie.'

*laughter*

Solomon: I'm sure no one had ever tried that before. But you know, I had YouTube proof and crap, so, it was fine.

EM (Bella): Yeah.

Solomon: But, uh, they just started the master's program like full on this…winter, I guess? So, a year and a half from now I go full time and have no breaks. But yeah… Yeah, so a year and half from now I start my master's in statistics. Man, I feel like a nerd. I'm a nerd.

*laughter*

EM (Rosalie): Well, I can honestly say you're a lot braver than I am in that field.
